La Fête Nationale/ Bastille Day
This national holiday in France commemorates the storming of the Bastille on this day in 1789. Celebrations will go on all over France but in Perpignan there will be music and dancing with a spectacular pyrotechnic light display at 11pm on the walls of the Castillet.

Benicàssim Music Festival
Soaring in popularity over the last few years this 4 day festival attracts people from all over Europe. Benicàssim is a beach town on the Costa de Azahar and will welcome 10,000 part goers for this event ; The guaranteed hot weather, beach location and big name line up ensures a fantastic few days with not a Wellington boot or and bin liner in sight. Morrissey, The Artic Monkeys, Leonard Cohen and Babyshambles are among the line-up. So dust off your tent, don your bikini and get down there.

Carrillon de Perpignan – 6th Festival
Probably not a massive vacation crowd attraction, but no less interesting is that Perpignan has one of the most famous carillons in Europe. Carillons are similar to church bells and entire melodies can be played on them. Perpignan’s carillon has the unique distinction of being the only one in the world built in the 19th century that has a range of four octaves. Experience these unique concerts every Thursday evening.

Bit like the cherry festival à la Céret this is all things apricot. Jam , food, wine and lots of singing and dancing, come have a family afternoon/night out.

Céret de Toros – La Feria.
Huge annual festival not for the faint hearted. The bull run through the streets (saturday afternoon) is not to be missed but maybe what is, is the huge bull fights in the arénes on the outskirts of town which culminate in the gruesome deaths of the bulls. A very particular type of cultural experience with locals in Catalan dress ready to party all weekend. If you want to drink all day and night then the many ‘bodegas’ set up around the streets will help you do just that..

Diades Catalanes
3 day festival with a Catalan custom of thousands of snails barbequed over vines. Entertainment in the streets includes the ubiquitous parade of giants. Singing, dancing and fireworks make this a festival for all the family.

The streets of Perpignan light up every Thursday for 6 weeks with local, national and international acts to tickle the taste buds. This really is a festival not to be missed. Bands play in the squares and the streets are alive with jugglers, acrobats and other entertainment and all the shops stay open late if that’s what you want.
